In need of supplements for diarrhoea relief?

Diarrhoea can be caused by many different factors, such as a bacterial (or parasite) infection, viruses, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), food allergies and/or intolerances, medications, and stress.

If any of these factors have left you going to the toilet more often than normal or your poo has become more runny in consistency, you might be in need of diarrhoea supplements.

why use aguulp supplements for diarrhoea?*

Our aguulp for gut formula contains a powerful blend of nutrients which studies suggest have helped to reduce the symptoms of diarrhoea*, making them an effective choice when it comes to supplements for IBS. This is because it contains ingredients like zinc, vitamin D, prebiotics, and L-Glutamine.

  • Zinc supplementation has been shown to be effective in reducing severity and duration of diarrhoea episodes*
  • XOS has been shown in studies to help alleviate diarrhoea by regulating gut bacteria composition (increasing levels of beneficial bacteria), reducing inflammation, and suppressing intestinal permeability*
  • L-Glutamine supplementation has been shown to be effective in improving symptoms of IBS (such as diarrhoea), following intestinal infection*
  • Vitamin D deficiency has been associated with viral diarrhoea. A healthy immune system is needed to help protect against viruses and bacterial infections. Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system

So, what’s happening in my body when I have diarrhoea?

Diarrhoea is often caused by consumption of foods containing bacteria or foods that the body may not be able to break down sufficiently due to an intolerance or allergy.

Certain medications, foods and drinks (such as caffeine) can cause loose stools, particularly for those who may be sensitive to the effects of coffee. Stress can also result in physiological changes and activation of the sympathetic nervous system.

Occasional loose stools are normal (and may be resolved by taking diarrhoea supplements), but ongoing ‘chronic’ diarrhoea can lead to dehydration, malabsorption of nutrients – potentially leading to nutritional deficiencies. If you’re concerned, you should always speak to your GP.

top tips for reducing diarrhoea

  • Watch out for certain sugars – Whilst sugar in general is detrimental to gut health (as it feeds the bad bacteria) certain sugars are known to be poorly absorbed in the intestines and can lead to diarrheoa. These may include sorbitol and fructose- found in fruit juices, fizzy drinks and desserts.
  • Keep a food diary – Allergies and food sensitivities are common triggers for diarrhoea. In cases where no known cause has been established, the keeping of a food diary can help to identify potential trigger foods.
  • Cut down on caffeine – For some people, especially those who may be sensitive to the effects of caffeine, diarrheoa can be a common complaint. Cutting down on caffeine intake is recommended and avoiding the consumption of caffeine on an empty stomach may also be helpful in preventing loose stools.
